Fr Francis has been authorized to begin construction on a new Campus in Butaalunga, Uganda by the Archbishop of Kampala.
The Archbishop of Kampala, Uganda, is the Most Reverend Paul Ssemogerere, appointed by Pope Francis in December 2021 and installed in January 2022, serving as the head of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala.
The proposal for the new Butaalunga campus is projected to be a few years of work and includes a new Parish Rectory, church, clinic and school(s). There is also a need for dormitories and possible trade schools, but, for now remain on the “hopeful” list.
Butaalunga is in Ngando, Butambala County, which is located in South Central Uganda.
Butaalunga is approximately 38 miles west of Kampala. The terrain, however is rugged and roads often are rutted and difficult to traverse. For example the estimated time to travel from Kampala to Butaalunga is a minimum of 2 hours.
Uganda’s landscape is highly diverse, ranging from rolling savannahs, fertile plains, and tropical forests to highlands, plateaus, and volcanic mountains. Most of the land near the Butaalunga is rugged, rolling hills and roads are sometimes just dirt trails.
Current Butaalunga Campus
These photos have been taken of the current buildings in Butaalunga Campus. For the new construction, there will need to be wells dug and water retention systems and sanitation accommodations incorporated into development plans.
Proposed Butaalunga Campus
Thanks to your generosity and support the Butaalunga Campus is becoming a reality. Archbishop Ssemogerere has identified the initial construction to be the Parish Rectory. This will become the point of origin for all of the coordination of construction and communication as the development of the campus grows into the projected multiple structures that are planned.
