Last year, Uganda’s coffee exports were thriving – and this year promises to be another prosperous year!
Here is a little history, for example:
June 2021-May 2022: Coffee exports totaled 6.35 million bags worth US$ 837.14 million.
Previously, from June 2020-May 2021: Coffee exports totaled 5.88 million bags worth US$ 540.54 million.
This represents an increase of 8% in quantity and 55% in value.
Where does Uganda export Coffee, tea, malt and spices?
• Italy with a share of 20% (123 million US$)
• Sudan with a share of 14.6% (87 million US$)
• Kenya with a share of 13% (78 million US$)
• Germany with a share of 12.7% (76 million US$)
• USA with a share of 5.71% (34 million US$)
• Spain with a share of 5.48% (32 million US$)
What African country is the biggest exporter of coffee?
Ethiopia, however, was the leading exporter of Coffee in Africa, earning around 1.2 billion U.S. dollars with coffee exports.
Uganda followed with an export value of 594.2 million U.S. dollars as of the same year.
Just to gain a little perspective, though, in 2021, Brazil exported nearly six billion U.S. dollars’ worth of coffee to other countries, making it the world’s leading coffee exporter by far.
